Information for Publishers

Book Exhibit:  An exhibit of scholarly books will be held during the conference.  About twenty publishers are expected to take part. To have your books represented at the exhibit, ask your publisher to consider taking part in the book exhibit or to contact Scholar’s Choice (see information below), which will organizing exhibits for publishers. Publishers should direct any questions to Alfred Bendixen at — We welcome the participation of publishers and are one of the few scholarly organizations that do NOT charge an exhibit fee. Publishers who are unable to attend, but wish to have a few titles exhibited should contact The Scholar’s Choice.

Wednesday, May 23, 2018:

Book Exhibit (Pacific L-O) available for set up
From 7 pm until 9:30 pm.

Thursday, May 24, 2018:

Sessions from 8:30 AM until 6:50 PM.
Book Exhibit set up for exhibitors (8 am – 10 am)
Book Exhibit open 10  AM – 5 PM
Opening Reception :  6:50- 8:00 PM

Friday, May 25, 2018:

Sessions from 8 AM until 6:20 PM.
Book Exhibit:  9 AM – 5 PM

Saturday, May 26, 2018:

Sessions from 8 AM until 7 PM.

ALA Conference Housing Information:

The Hyatt Regency San Francisco will offer a conference rate of $172 for a single or double room (triples are $190) until we fill our room block.  For reservations, please use the on line link at or call 1-800-233-1234 before April 15, 2018 and make sure to request the American Literature conference rate.

Program Information: A tentative program will be posted on the ALA website in early March (   Please note that corrections and changes may be made to it during the following few weeks; a finalized program will go to the printer in mid-April, and printed programs will be available at the conference.

Conference and Exhibit Fees Because the ALA values the work performed by academic presses and recognizes the reality of this economy, we do not currently charge an exhibit fee.  Two tables will be provided without charge for all participating presses. Additional tables may be provided upon request, if available. Please note that the hotel will charge a handling fee or drayage charge.  Information on those fees will be available soon.  Press Representatives will be expected to register at the normal conference rate.  We are also again providing an opportunity to advertise in our program.

Advertising in Program:  The 2018 conference program will include advertising from publishers for a rate of $250 per page (8 ½ x 11 inches) for camera-ready copy. If there is more demand for advertising than our program permits, priority will be given to publishers who have exhibited regularly at ALA conferences. To request advertising space, please contact Alfred Bendixen  The deadline for emailing your ad is April 15, 2018 but we need to have your request for space as soon as possible. Normally we print 1200 copies of the program and paid registration runs about 1,000 people for the San Francisco conferences and about 1,150 for the Boston conferences.

Please note that book reps should pay the faculty rate, providing the name or each rep and listing the press as the affiliation.

Please inform the hotel of your plans to ship books by completing its shipment forms at the end of this message and then emailing the forms to the event planning manager, Joey Ilagan, at

Please note that the hotel’s book handling fees will be MUCH HIGHER if you do not contact them in advance.

Please arrange shipping so that your books do not arrive more than three days before the conference.
